Consistency Rules at Crypto Prop Firms: How the Best-Day Cap Works

A best-day cap does not limit how much you earn, only how unevenly. Here is the arithmetic, the four rule types and the firms that skip it entirely.

A crypto prop firm consistency rule limits the share of your profit that is allowed to come from a single trading day, and most firms set that share somewhere between 30% and 50%. Of the 27 firms we track, 18 run a rule of this kind, or a daily profit cap that does the same job, on at least one plan. Seven run none, and two say nothing either way. Because crypto trades every day of the week and one bitcoin session can move 5% or more, the rule catches crypto traders more often than forex traders. This page shows the arithmetic with real numbers, sorts the rules into four types, and names the firms that skip the rule altogether.

How a crypto prop firm consistency rule is calculated

Every version uses one ratio: your best day divided by a reference profit figure. Flip the ratio around and you get the total profit you need before the best day stops being a problem.

  • Best-day share = best day ÷ reference profit × 100
  • Required total = best day ÷ cap

Worked example. An ETH trader runs a $25,000 one-step account. Over five days she books $300, $450, $1,100, $250 and $400, for a total of $2,500. The $1,100 came on Wednesday, when a short caught a sharp ETH drop.

Cap Best-day share Total needed Extra profit still required
50% 44% $2,200 none, already clear
40% 44% $2,750 $250
30% 44% $3,667 $1,167
20% 44% $5,500 $3,000

The same five days pass a 50% rule, need one more decent day under 40%, and need several more weeks of steady trading under 20%. Run your own figures in the consistency calculator.

What the best day is divided by

The denominator is where firms differ most, and it changes the answer on identical trades.

  • Total net profit. Overall profit is the base at E8 One, Klein Funding, Mubite, PropW, Upscale and WenCrypto, on Goat Funded Trader's instant plans and Funded Trader Markets' funded stage, and on FTMO 1-Step accounts bought on or after 12 October 2026. Losing days shrink the total and push your best day's share up.
  • Profit from winning days only. Cointracts, Fundedbit and FTMO's older 1-Step orders ignore losing days in the denominator.
  • The profit target. HyroTrader counts any one day for no more than 40% of the target on its One-Step and Two-Step evaluations (50% per trade on Zero-Step). On the Nitro challenge, Funded Trader Markets lets no day exceed half of the target, and Dolvero measures 15% against the profit that gets you funded.

Go back to the ETH trader and add a $500 losing Saturday. On a net-profit basis her total drops to $2,000 and the $1,100 day becomes 55% of it. On a winning-days basis the total stays $2,500 and the share stays 44%. On a target basis, a 10% target on $25,000 is $2,500; 40% of that is $1,000, so $1,000 of Wednesday counts, $100 simply does not count, and the losing day changes nothing.

Why a 24/7 market makes the cap bite harder

Three things make the rule tougher in crypto than in forex.

First, the firm's reset time decides where one day ends. Crypto Fund Trader cuts the day at 00:05 UTC, HyperPNL, Propr and Upscale at 00:00 UTC, Breakout and Velotrade at 00:30 UTC, and Mubite runs its checks at 23:59 GMT+1. A trade closed in two halves either side of the reset is booked as two days.

Second, single days can be enormous. According to the Coinbase price series hosted by FRED, BTC closed at least 5% away from the prior close on 16 separate days during the twelve months ending 29 September 2026, and it dropped 13.2% in one session on 5 February 2026. A modest BTC position caught on the right side of such a session can produce a week's profit in hours.

Third, weekends count as trading days at every crypto-first firm. That is a help as well as a hazard: Saturday and Sunday give you two extra sessions per week to add smaller days and dilute a large one.

Splitting at the reset. Suppose the $1,100 ETH gain above came from a short held across Crypto Fund Trader's 00:05 UTC reset. Closing half at 23:50 and half at 00:20 books two days of roughly $550 each, and the best-day share drops to 22%. The trades are identical; only the timestamps changed.

Four types of consistency rule

The firms that use a best-day limit fall into four families. The first is the largest.

Family How it works Firms and caps
Profit-share check at pass or payout Best day compared with profit when you ask to pass or withdraw AquaFunded 15%/20%/50% by model (Instant Flex exempt); Cointracts 50%, funded; Crypto Fund Trader 40%, Break only; E8 One 40%, funded; FTMO 50% on 1-Step, 30% on Instant Account; Fundedbit 20% Fast Track, 40% funded 1-step; Goat Funded Trader 15–20%, instant plans; The5ers 50%, Summer Plan only; Upscale 30% (Turbo plus API accounts)
Target-based evaluation cap Best day compared with the phase target Dolvero 15% (promotion only), Funded Trader Markets Nitro 50%, HyroTrader 40%
Score that holds back withdrawals A named ratio; payouts wait until it falls FundingPips 15% Zero / 35% Master On Demand; Klein Funding Stability Score 30% one-phase / 45% two-phase; Mubite Funded Score 20–40% by plan; PropW Consistency Ratio 40% / 45%; TradeXProp 45%; WenCrypto 20%
Fixed dollar or percent ceiling per day Profit above a daily limit is removed or ignored Crypto Fund Trader caps both a single trade and a single day at $10,000; E8 Pro counts 2% a day toward target (so 8% takes four days minimum); Goat Funded Trader $3,000 on funded days

The percentage matters less than the penalty: a cap that fails your evaluation costs the fee, while a cap that pauses a withdrawal only costs time.

The strict versions are The5ers' Summer Plan and the Nitro challenge at Funded Trader Markets. Mubite, E8 One, Klein Funding and FTMO delay rather than fail (the Mubite review covers its Funded Score by plan), and HyroTrader's version simply stops counting the excess.

Which firms apply it, and in which phase

When it binds Firms
Evaluation phase Funded Trader Markets Nitro (half the target), FTMO 1-Step (half, never a breach), HyroTrader (40% of target), Klein Funding on Bybit plans (30% or 45%), The5ers Summer Plan one-step (half)
Funded stage or withdrawal AquaFunded, Cointracts, Crypto Fund Trader Break, Dolvero (promotion gate), E8 One, Fundedbit, FundingPips, Funded Trader Markets Nitro once funded (45%), Mubite, PropW, The5ers Summer Plan two-step, TradeXProp, Upscale, WenCrypto
Daily cap in place of a ratio E8 Pro, Goat Funded Trader, Crypto Fund Trader
No rule anywhere BrightFunded, Breakout, HyperPNL, Kraken Prop, Propr, SizeProp, Velotrade
Nothing published RebelsFunding, Bitfunded

Most rules bind after funding, which protects the fee but can hold up a payout. The few that bind during evaluation are the ones to plan around in week one. The rules hub shows this column next to every firm's drawdown limits.

Five habits that keep you under the cap

  1. Pick a daily ceiling before you start. Divide the target by the days you expect to trade. A $1,000 target spread over five days under a 40% cap means stopping at $400.
  2. Recompute after any big day. A $900 BTC day under 40% requires a $2,250 total, so you know the remaining $1,350 must come from other sessions.
  3. Use the reset when a trade runs hot. Taking part of the profit before the firm's reset and the rest after splits it across two days.
  4. Remember that losses hurt the ratio. On a net-profit basis, a red day after a big green one moves you closer to the cap.
  5. Choose the firm to fit your style. If your profits arrive in spikes, look for no cap at all, or a cap that merely delays withdrawals, rather than one that can end the challenge.

Firms that skip the best-day cap

Seven firms skip the best-day cap on every plan: BrightFunded, Breakout, HyperPNL, Kraken Prop, Propr, SizeProp and Velotrade, so one session may carry your entire target or payout. Several other firms offer at least one plan without the rule alongside plans with it. Our no-consistency-rule list covers every such plan and the limits that still apply. For individual rulebooks see the Breakout review, the Velotrade review and the HyroTrader review, whose target-based cap is the mildest of the evaluation rules.

Frequently asked questions

What is a typical consistency cap at a crypto prop firm?

Most caps fall between 30% and 50% of profit from one day, with 40% the most common. A few instant-funding plans go as low as 15% or 20%.

Does breaking a consistency rule fail my challenge?

It depends on the firm. Funded Trader Markets' Nitro and The5ers' Summer Plan can fail the account. Most others, including Mubite, Klein Funding, E8 One and FTMO, only delay the pass or the payout, and HyroTrader stops counting profit above its cap.

Do weekend days count toward the consistency rule?

Yes. Crypto-first firms treat Saturday and Sunday as trading days, so profit on those days adds to your total and can help dilute one big day.

How do I calculate the profit I still need?

Divide your best day by the cap. With a 40% cap, a $1,200 day requires a $3,000 total, so you need $1,800 from other days. Our consistency calculator does this for each firm's cap.

Which firms skip the best-day cap completely?

Seven firms: BrightFunded, Breakout, HyperPNL, Kraken Prop, Propr, SizeProp and Velotrade. Each lets one day carry the whole target or payout.
